RIP Todd Snider

Born: October 11, 1966

Died: November 14, 2025 from complications of pneumonia

We'll never know the whole story of that early November day in Utah when he was turned away from the hospital and arrested. The only way we could have found out was if he lived to tell the story. The good news is that legacies live on forever.

“I’m certain I don’t have any answers, and I want the people who listen to my songs to know that,” Mr. Snider told The Times in 2009. “If someone learns something from me, that would be their fault.”

Todd was struggling with the deaths of Kent Finlay, Skip Litz (Train Song), Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joe Shaver, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jeff Austin, John Prine, Al Bunetta (Oh Boy records), Neal Casal, and others. Recently, as he was dealing with worsening spinal stenosis, his grief seemed consuming. Todd's death is teaching me to work to keep grief at bay. I think Todd wants us to keep on getting down without getting down and out. That's one of many things I've learned from him, and yes it's my fault.
